Designed for high-risk situations requiring a non-lethal response, the Byrna \"Pepper\" projectile combines the irritant power of Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) with the incapacitating effect of PAVA. This combination creates a formidable effect: OC causes intense tearing, skin burning and severe breathing difficulty, while PAVA induces muscle weakness and temporary loss of coordination, effectively neutralising an individual without causing lasting injury.

This projectile is encased in a plastic shell that breaks apart on impact, releasing its contents as an irritant cloud. Its optimal effectiveness is observed within a range of 10 to 12 metres, allowing for safe use at a distance. Commonly used in some countries by security professionals, it can be deployed in tense situations, particularly during altercations or in dense urban environments.

It is essential, however, to use it with good judgement: this projectile should only be used when an immediate danger has been identified and no other solution is available. Improper use, especially at short range, can cause injury or complications, particularly if the target has underlying medical conditions.
